As we all face this ‘new normal’, it’s important to have something to look forward to as well as something that brings people together again (safely, of course). Thankfully the Bright Box located here in the heart of Winchester is yet again revitalizing the community.

Since first being established in 2013, Bright Box has hosted hundreds of shows stretching across all different genres and forms of live entertainment. Want to catch a bluegrass show? Rock music more your thing? Maybe go out for a night of comedic stylings or an always exciting drag show? They’ve got you covered. Just last year alone, Bright Box hosted over 220 different events!

In addition to bringing in amazingly talented performers including Grammy-winning artists, and comedians that have been seen on Comedy Central, Saturday Night Live, and The Tonight Show, Bright Box has also become home for local talent by providing a space where they can hone their craft and develop a loyal fanbase (several of these acts have even gone on to become nationally touring performers).Their partnership with Shenandoah University adds to their contribution and loyalty to Winchester, serving as a notable platform for performances by students, faculty, and even world-renowned composers and musicians.
When Marilyn Finnemore and her partner, Aldo Bello initially purchased the building in 2005 they began filling it with unique, independently owned shops and services, which quickly took off and started to bring some life back into an area that had seemingly lost its spark. Marilyn recognized Old Town’s potential to be a thriving hub again, and she fell in love with Winchester’s architecture, it’s location in the Shenandoah Valley, and its fun-loving, friendly people. Then with the addition of the venue hall in 2013, the town appeared to be brought back to life.

There are dozens of reasons why Bright Box has reached such a high level of success, (ClickitTicket ranked Bright Box as one of the 50 Best Small Music Venues in America, and Rukkus/”TickPick” included the venue in their list of 100 Favorite Places To See Live Music), but one of the things that really makes it stand out is the staff and owners’ dedication to, as well as all around passion, for the area and its residents. The community here is something that sets Winchester apart, and Bright Box continues to set an example as to what it truly means to come together.
